Fun Projects

I find that I need to have little projects going on around me because it motivates me to do the things that NEED to be done first so that I can spend time doing my fun projects!!  Right now this is the case anyway.  Actually, that is most often times the case unless I am trying to keep my head over water, so to speak, with the daily chores that keep me busy.
Since my Ethiopian shirt project, I have been wanting to try cutting fabric with my cricut!!  I looked this up on youtube (what would we do without youtube nowadays?!) and there are several different ideas.  The one I chose was using heat and bond or steam-a-seam 2 and adhering (ironing) it to some fabric and then cutting it with my cricut.  This is fun!!  The shapes have to be pretty simple, though.  I started out with just a circle for Bereket's shirt.

I wanted to see how well the cricut would cut a circle and it did fabulous!!  The B is for sweet Bereket, of course!!  I also stitched around the circle because I like the detail.  That is what I like about the heat & bond and the steam-a-seam 2.  You can use your sewing machine on it without gumming up your needle.
The buttons were another fun detail, hopefully without making it too bulky!
The flower didn't cut quite as well, but I am happy with it!!  You can see that it didn't cut quite as nicely and I probably should have cleaned up the edge a little more.  This will / should stay adhered without sewing it as well if it is done properly (per directions!)

I found it so interesting that when I put these shirts close to each other, they are very close in size!!  Bereket's shirt is Circo brand from Target (size 2T) and Bella's shirt is Garanimals brand from Walmart (size 4T).  The Garanimals is definitely shorter in length than Bereket's shirt.  I did wash them first in case they would shrink.  I found them both fairly cheap.  Bereket's shirt was on the clearance rack, so it was a great opportunity to try this project out!!

One of my inspirations for this project was because my cousin and his wife had a baby!  I found baby onesies at Walmart on the clearance!!  Next up?!

My favorite on yet!!  Hearts!!

Happy Weekend!~

Very fun Angela. I need to give this a try with my Silhouette machine but I havent gotten brave enough yet!! I can also cut flocked transfer paper for t-shirts.

Thanks, you 2!! It is a lot of fun, Marla, you should try it!! One thing Cade mentioned after seeing them is that he remembers wearing shirts with applique on the front that was very uncomfortable, so we'll see.... I think doing smaller appliques may be better...?!
