We are hopeful after hearing good news once again today from Brett (coordinator). Bereket's father is now in Addis Ababa. He rode in to the city with Illien's representatives, whom I am having a growing appreciation for as each day goes by!! He plans to go to embassy Monday for an interview and to relinquish all rights to his son, Bereket. He hasn't seen his son for over a year and now he wants to see him one last time and say his "good-byes."
There are some pretty irate people (including myself) after hearing Demese's story and he says that the investigator that was hired by the embassy told him that Bereket's birth mother had deceased (which is not true and made him angry) and that if Bereket went to the US, they would donate his kidneys (??????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!). FOR REAL?! We don't get it, but after hearing this, Demese said he would fight for his child, even though he cannot feed him or take care of him (he is so poor). You can imagine how we are reeling as the story just continues to get more complex!! Bottom line: Embassy should have requested an interview with the father and made got the facts straight!!
However, as of today and right now, things seems to be in our favor! This may mean that it may be necessary to postpone my trip to Ethiopia. We just don't know right now!! Now we wait anxiously to hear what transpires next week!!
Happy Weekend! We are having company again and even though it has been such a hectic week and my house is not in very good order, I am looking forward to having company!!

Wow what great news and so cross our fingers you can get him too!! Hopefully the paperwork wont take too long once the dad has relinquished his rights!! What a story!!
