Changing up the "Little's" Room

We had a bunk bed given to us and after realizing there was an extra double mattress in storage, I decided we could use the extra room in Eden, Bella, and Bereket's room.  This meant moving Bereket out of the crib he was in, moving Bella to the top bunk (twin), and Eden moving to the bottom bunk (full).  One of my hopes in the "musical bed process" was the hope that it would be a positive change for Bereket.

When we were getting ready for Bereket to come home, I decided on putting him in a crib because I felt that was what he was most familiar with and hoped this would help easing him into so many changes.  I don't know if this was true.  I do know, though, that after Bereket came home it became very apparent to us that Bereket had spent way too much time in his bed at the Enat Alem Orphanage.  It shouldn't have come as a huge surprise.  The lack of muscle strength, times where he would just zone out in his bed, etc were good indicators that this was the case.  Not only that, but to the last day of being in his crib here in our house, he would just lay in his crib and wait to be lifted out, hardly ever making one peep.  We had been working with him to just stand up at least, but he only did that occasionally.

Anyway, when we were moving their room around, Bereket was taking all this in and as little boys do, he found it entertaining to watch putting beds together, taking beds apart, etc.  When we finally had the room together and baths were taken, pajamas were put on, teeth were brushed, then Bereket knew the routine was to go to bed.  Sometimes he would actually go stand by his crib and wait to be lifted in.  It was not an unhappy place to be at least!!  He had come to love his crib (and maybe even come to love his alone time).  Anyway, this night he was confused and went and stood by his crib which was in the living room without a mattress, bedding, etc.  I took his hand and led him to Bella's old bed and told him, "This is your new bed, Bereket!"  He looked at me and said, "OH!!"  He knew changes had been made.  I put him in his new bed and tucked him in and asked if he like Bella's bed and he said, "YEP!"

Bella was super excited to be on the top bunk and Eden seemed excited to have a new bed as well!!

They look pretty happy!!

Can you see that smile?!!!

All three of them!
We (Cyrus helped me) had the bed all set up and then had a problem with the railing on the top bunk.  Apparently the holes where the screws went in were stripped out so we couldn't use the railing.  I was very nervous about it and planned to get a bed rail that fits under the mattress.  We put pillows on the edge of the bed and scooted Bella clear to the wall but she has done really well and loves it.  So, five nights and counting she hasn't fallen out and Bereket's bed is working better because he it sitting up now when he wakes up and I see him right away!  The biggest thing is that we do have more space in their room now, so that is really nice!
