The Rain

We have had thunderstorms here now for the past couple of days.  It is reported that the forest fires have actually caused them which I found interesting.  Anyway, since our spring we have not had one real thunderstorm with rain!!  After months of the dry heat, I longed for the rain that would settle the dust, perk up the flowers, and lower the heat.  I was raised in Iowa, after all, and I miss the summer rain!!

Yesterday as we were cooking our dinner and our special visitors were with us, serious thunder made it's presence known and the three youngest were playing outside and Bereket came running in the house as fast as he could, tears on his face.  "Scary, Mommy!"  Some of you may know that something as small as that is so rewarding for me.  I scooped him up in my arms and held him tight and he asked, "What is that?!!"  I told him, "God is making thunder up in the sky!"  He told me, "I don't like God making that scary noise!!"  

We went out on the porch as the rain began to fall and we sat and watched the rain fall hard and we watched Bella and Eden dancing and singing in the rain.  "Singing in the rain,... just singing in the rain..!"  We were all happy after such a dry, hot summer!!

I love the smell of the air after it rains!  So fresh and clean.  It's almost like a fresh slate.  These past days have been overcast with thunderstorms looming on the horizons.  It has been great to just slow down a bit and enjoy life. Today we woke up to a cloudy sky, or it could have been smoke, we weren't sure.
