Disaster Zone

Yesterday I found the shop flooded at approximately 3:30, when I was headed to start the Excursion so I could get to school and pick up Katreese and Eden (Treva had basketball practice and had a ride with our neighbor.)  I noticed water on the cement (outside of the shop) and then I saw water coming out the door.

You can imagine my surprise, shock, and the devastation I felt with so many of our things stored in there, not to mention that we just recently remodeled the shop (new floors, paint, ceiling, whole bits!!)  Cade had deemed the shop to be my "exercise room" or "scrap booking / sewing room."  It's true, I run on the treadmill sometimes three times a week during this time of the year as well as work out to exercise dvds in there where there is more space than the house.  I also have all my scrap booking supplies, computer, crucit, sewing machine, and valuables that we store in there.  We also have our extra refrigerator, big chest freezer, and extra pantry there to store extra food and canned goods.  Most of all, the shop has become extra living space for us, which has been extremely useful (with another play area for the kids)!

It was interesting as I stood for some seconds in shocked surprise and realized it was just like it was raining out of the ceiling!  I was transfixed on the water coming out of the ceiling (you gotta admit, it is a rare sight!!) until I realized I had to stop the water, somehow!  Thankfully, I was able to get the water turned off, Cyrus got off the bus soon, and we started moving things out of the shop.

It was interesting that I felt a rare sense of peace (I know, this may sound a little weird but hear me out!).  I was dismayed of course, well maybe a little more than that, upset!  BUT, I knew that all those things that were natural did not effect my family.  I remember watching the water raining out of the ceiling, wondering when the storm would end, so to speak.  It was wreaking havoc on the interior of the shop and there was much standing water in the shop already.  Today, as I looked into the shop it looked unusually normal after what it looked like Yesterday.  The floors looked pretty clean and dry.  When I looked at the ceiling, though, there was the most damage that I could see from the "storm."

So, I feel it has been very much like what our family just faced.  I feel we were very much in a storm, watching Eden wrestle with her past and then the rain started to fall as more of her story came in bits and pieces.  The lightning struck my heart and I was wounded in many ways and the hail came down as her anger lashed out because of what she has faced.   We stood transfixed at the rain descending, flooding, and breaking down barriers......!  We wondered when it would stop, how things would be afterwards, the damage.  The interesting part of rain, is that it cleanses.  Storms change us, make us, and sometimes can break us.  Today I feel thankful for the One who knows how to rebuild, heal, and help Eden.  I am thankful that in coming to our home, she has found something that can help her far more than either Cade or I can in our own strength, and that is the place of prayer, communication with the Great Physician.

I hadn't planned to blog about this again today, I had other plans....!  This is what came out, so I'll let it be....

unfortunately, I was too busy moving things
out of the shop to get a picture of all
 the water standing in there!
