A Weekend to Remember

Seriously, I am still flying high after my run on Sunday in the half-marathon!  It was the hardest, grueling, longest, best-feeling race ever!  I know, a little contradictory!  I felt really good for the first seven miles and then we ran into some pretty direct wind off the ocean and it definitely slowed me down and my legs were hurting pretty good by mile eight and I still had five more left.  Thank goodness the last three miles were more sheltered and the wind wasn't as fierce.  I didn't know how I was going to make that last mile (which I figured would be easy-breezy when it came to race day) but somehow I managed to keep a decent pace up and then when I hit mile thirteen I was ready to stop.... forgot about that point one!!  UGHH!  I wound up feeling disappointed because I had my hopes up for a bit better time, but now I realize I should be happy with my time.  After all, it is my first half-marathon.  One hour, 45 minutes and 40 seconds was my official time!  WOO-HOO!  (This is why I better stop right now, because I get too competitive!!)

Yes, it was horribly hard and yet all that training definitely was useful and a big benefit when I needed to push myself!  There were four thousand runners, so it was crazy!  My sister did awesome!  I was so happy for her.  So, a little recap of our weekend!

I had to leave my "littles" but they didn't seem too sad!

Sat. morning breakfast at an old fashioned cute diner!

We went exploring Coronado after our breakfast.
Here is the Hotel De Coronado!

Which leads right to the ocean!

Can you tell we were happy to be at the ocean?!!

Where is Waldo?!  Hiding in the palm trees!

The Hotel Del Coronado is amazing!!

Getting amped up for the run

Apparently my sister a little more so than I!

Shopping.... of course!

We got our pasta downtown SanDiego the
 night before the race!

My sister took a before picture but we both looked pretty worried / tired / ill (?!!) so I opted not to post that one!  After all, it was taken at 5:30 in the morning and we both had a bunch of nerves going on by then!!  It was very chilly that morning as we all waited to start the race.

My after the race pict!  This was after we got
back to our motel!

My sister... can you tell she wasn't feeling all that well?!

We did it, though!!  Accomplishment!

It is always nice getting away for a break..but it is always nice coming back home too!  This was such a needed time / space for me and I felt so happy to spend it with my sis.  Just my sis and I!  We decided maybe we need to make it an annual thing.  Where are we running next year, sister?!!  She says, "Maybe we could do a 5K instead?!!!"
