My Distressing Project

A few years ago I decided to repaint my kitchen cupboards - RED!!  I loved it, but for whatever reason, it wasn't a very good paint job.  Maybe that had something to do with the fact that Kohlie took a turn for the worse - in a big way!!  Thankfully, my friend Susan Hansen came to visit us and helped me finish up my project.  It has been around 3 years that we repainted the cupboards and as much as I like my red cabinets, the paint just hasn't held up that well.  There are a lot of nicks especially around the handles that stick out like a sore thumb in contrast to the red paint!!  It is almost like the paint didn't ever dry out because they seemed to just stay sticky.  I am not a painter but I do a fair amount of painting, just ask my hubby!!  I like what fresh paint does to make things new again!!
So, I have been contemplating about what to do about my cupboards without spending a lot of money, if any!!  My idea?  Distressing my cupboards!  Yesterday I decided to just do one drawer and see what it looked like because I knew that I could just repaint it with leftover paint if I didn't like it!  I liked it so much that I kept going.  The cupboards add a "rustic" look to my kitchen, which I like and which also is really popular right now.  Tell me what you think?!

I admit, it takes some getting used to!  The first night after I had sanded some of the cabinets, the kids and I were anxious to see Cade's reaction!!  He must be so used to my "project," because he didn't even blink fast or anything!!  The kids asked him what he thought of the cupboards, he said, "Kids, I love your mom and whatever she wants to do to make her happy is just fine with me!"  Aww, my heart melted!!
