Iva Bells Day 1

Sunday evening I made it back home to my family after five days of being gone, for a 3 day backpacking trip with some ladies. This trip has been in the plans for some time now so I had some time to get prepared, naturally and mentally (smile.)  I have done some hiking and enjoy the mountains and the beauty of nature but it is the first time I have ever done a backpacking trip overnight.

I have to say, after the first grueling day of 14 miles to Iva Bell Springs (our destination) my body and feet were not so sure I was all into this kinda thing.  That was the hardest day.  I used a backpack that Cade won in a raffle (it is a real high quality one but it is made for a man) and I had a hard time getting used to it (and the weight) and it rode on my tailbone. However, thankfully, after that first day, I got used to it and it didn't seem like such a foreign object.

Since getting back home, I have been so anxious to blog about our hike because it really was such an amazing adventure and believe me, I was not so sure I was in for the adventure only days before departing to Mammoth Lakes.  The Sunday before I was to leave, I was hiking on the mountain above our place and I was telling Treva I wasn't so sure about the trip.  #1, I was afraid I was going to be cold, #2, I was unsure about how my trail shoes were going to do, and the list goes on..  Anyway, Treva told me, "Mom, if you knew all the details it would not be an adventure!!"  I was thankful for that and I thought of it often on my trip!

We were very fortunate that Debbie Clausen, who lives in Mammoth, went in with us on the first part of our trip because Junie got elevation sickness and had to turn around, so Debbie was able to take her back with her!  It was probably 4 miles in by the time Junie needed to turn back because she was not doing well!
