I sit wondering where to start and where to stop, really! Bereket had his doctor visit for his broken arm on Monday, where it was x-rayed and casted. Amazingly, you can already see where he bone has started healing....once again! I never thought I would be back in the bone doctor's office!! This brings up questions, some I have asked before, some I don't want to think about, and some other people are asking!!
Something that the doctor's showed me this time on Little Bear's x-rays are lines across his bones....called evidence of severe malnourishment! It is amazing to me, yet they feel there MUST be some other reason his bones are breaking. Is that not proof in itself?! This sweet boy was so severely malnourished that one year ago our pediatrician wrote up a report that said, "Failure to thrive...sever malnourishment...edima (fluid for malnourishment)!" It was such a doomy, gloomy report that I was even taken back!!
No, things haven't went as we imagined once he came home. The hopes and expectations of many were, beef the boy up or in other words, get him plenty of nutrition (which has been the case) and watch him put on weight and grow like crazy. NOT SO. He has gained a little weight and grown in height a little bit. While I am happy with little and have accepted that it may take him a longer time to build up his body and bones and muscle strength, other professionals are not satisfied.
After Bear's consultation where they undressed him and fully inspected him and his bones, he was attacked with a needle where they took a bunch of blood from him (yes, I was helping hold him tight against me) and it was not an easy process for our little guy either. Such small veins and the first one blew out....! Anyway, a bunch of tests are being run on him, not to mention other things brewing in the storm clouds!
While I am worrying (hey, it's a mother's job), I have found peace in leaving it in God's hands. Ironically, we had a doctor appointment for Eden on Friday and she had blood tests run as well, so now I am waiting for results and I really dislike very much this part. It brings back a lot of memories!!
