SCHOOL

Some big adjustments have come for us this year!!  After feeling like a lot of doors were closing for me for homeschooling again this year, I relented and sent all my kids back to school!!!!

In the spring, after our school year ended, I found out that Juniper Ridge Academy closed down!!!  This was a huge thing for me.  In fact, the director of the program (our go-to teacher) told me we were the hardest ones to send the email to!!  We had grown close to her throughout the year and she gave me much encouragement!!  Anyway, then we had Eden's brain function scans and the doctor told me he really wanted to see Eden back in school for the social skills!!  The hope was that we would get her brain calmed down enough for her to start school and we really believe we have, in fact, seen a shift in E!!!

As the summer was nearing to an end I reached out to the principal and upper grade (4-8) teacher to tell her of our plans and challenges!  I referred the book When Love Is Not Enough to her.  It was so interesting because after talking to her about RAD (she had not heard of it before) she went home and looked it up and she said the "symptoms" that she read gave her goosebumps because they fit Eden so perfectly!!  She read the whole book and bought another book for another teacher and told me that she wanted to educate her faculty on the book!!  I was completely stoked that she was behind me 100 percent!!!  The week before the kids started school, I met with her and the whole faculty (granted, this is a small school with a small faculty but this was still huge for me!!) and we talked about the book and RAD and kids who fit the RAD spectrum!!  I left that meeting feeling so grateful and relieved that everyone was starting out the school year on the SAME PAGE and while they may not all completely understand it was making the awareness which is just vital in our situation!!!!

Anyway, on the kids' first day of school I took them to school and dropped them off and then headed to the airport for my relay race!!!  Needless to say, this didn't make things any easier for the kids and we are still doing a lot of adjusting!!!!
Now we have a 8th grader, 4th grader, 2nd grader, and Kinder!!

Oh wow, good for you! It takes so much effort but it's great when the whole educational team can be on the same page. Have a great year!

I hope your school year goes good! At least you had a chance to see how the online school learning would be, and it isn't for everyone. =)

Joann, There is much I miss about online schooling but since our program is no longer offered, I would have to pay a very hefty fee to even get online schooling again like we had....However, it seems this is best for now!! I can see how it would work well for especially traveling families as yourselves!!!
